I did my mandatory internship abroad at TomTom in Amsterdam. During my internship, I primarily assisted in designing the TomTom.com website. I contributed to both new projects and redesigning existing pages. Initially, I familiarized myself with the company’s Figma library and other tools. As I gained experience, I took on larger tasks, working independently on projects and website designs. I mainly used Figma, but also had the chance to work with Adobe Creative Cloud and 3D software like Maya. Additionally, I explored tasks outside my main focus, such as motion graphics, video editing, and optimizing layouts for better user experience across devices.

EV Guide
One of the first big projects I helped with was the TomTom EV Guide. We designed 8 pages including a landing page to help people who want to buy an electric car to find out everything about it. The foundation of the pages was designed by Senior Designer Juhye Lee. Have a look at the finished pages here.

Move portal redesign
As a small exercise I was asked to improve the design of the TomTom Move Portal pages. I made sure that it stays in the same style as the other pages on the website so that the user can establish a connection.
The TomTom Move Portal is a platform that provides access to detailed traffic, travel, and road usage data, enabling organizations, governments, and businesses to analyze mobility patterns and make informed decisions on transportation planning and management.
API pages
I contributed to the design of the TomTom API pages by assisting with the overall layout and selecting the icons for the benefits section. My role involved ensuring that the visual elements aligned with the page’s design goals, enhancing the user experience and making the information more accessible. Have a look at one finished example page here.

GO fleet page design
The Go Fleet app is a fleet management tool that helps businesses track and manage their vehicles in real-time, optimizing operations and improving efficiency. I contributed to the design of the website for this app, including picking out images, designing the layout, creating mockups and customizing mobile versions.

Video Editing
We have received a request to update the TomTom Career website. The focus of the change was on the images and the header video. It should show more diversity and different people. I then edited the header video with Premiere pro, the content was taken from a long video which is played in the entrance area of our office and should represent the company. Conclusion
The internship gave me a lot of valuable experience for my future career. It has reassured me that I want to work in this field or a similar one later on and has contributed significantly to my professional experience. I gained a lot of knowledge that will help me in future jobs. Above all, my handling of Figma has been strengthened and I have learned many new features of the software. I also improved my knowledge of other programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
I really enjoyed working in the team and I definitely gained valuable experience for future teamwork in the work and academic field.
It was particularly valuable for me to have done the internship abroad. Not only did I improve my English skills, but I also grew personally as it was my first experience outside my home town.
